Soul Tribe

The Soul Tribe is a 10 Week Course that covers the 10 Yogic Principles of the Yamas and Niyamas.

Each week, the tribe meets for 90 minutes to discuss one of the 10 Yogic principles of the Yamas and Niyamas. The program starts with Ahimsa (Non-Violence/Self-Love) in Week 1 and makes its way into the final Niyama of Ishvara Pranidhana (Surrender) in Week 10.

The following is a brief description and definition of each of the Yamas and Niyamas that we will practice along the way:

Yamas: The word ‘Yama’ translates into “restraints” or outer observances. They guide us on how to live in more harmony with the world around us. The 5 Yamas are:

WEEK 1: Ahimsa (Non-Violence): think, speak and act without causing harm towards yourself or others.

Intentions for Week 1:

1.     Defining what Self-Love means to you

2.    Discovering how to Love yourself and others

3. Learn how to communicate in a non-violent way

WEEK 2: Satya (Truthfulness): think, speak and act with integrity towards yourself and others.

Intentions for Week 2:

1.     Shadow work

2.    Discover your Truth

3.    Practice how to stay in Integrity

WEEK 3: Bramacharya (Sacred Path): literally means “walking with God” and implies that everything is sacred. Every moment can move us into a stance of communion with the divine (God) if we leave excess behind and set boundaries on how long or often we do something or consume a thing. Once you remove excess from your life, what is it that’s left over?

Intentions for Week 3:

1.     Remove excess from your life

2.     Discover your Purpose

WEEK 4: Asteya (Non-Stealing): living life with the knowing that we have enough. Thoughts of scarcity and lack rob us of our joy and contentment. They lead us to look outward in order to find fulfillment.

Intentions for Week 4:

1.     Discover where you are stealing time from yourself and others

2.    Giving back to others (Donation/Non-profit organization project)

WEEK 5: Aparigraha (Non-Possesiveness):  the practice non-hoarding or letting go moves us towards liberation (Moksha) and enjoyment of life that is expansive and always fresh and new. It begs us to freely let go of that which no longer serves us.

Intentions for Week 5:

1.    Practice the art of Letting Go

2.   Practice the art of Forgiveness

After Week 5 we dive into the 5 Niyamas.

Niyamas: The word ‘Niyama’ translates into “inner observances”. They guide us on how to be more at peace in our internal world. The 5 Niyamas are:

WEEK 6: Saucha (Purity): with clean surroundings, bodies, attitudes and hearts we can become more available to the higher qualities of life that we are seeking.

·       The practice of Yoga involves many ‘Kriyas’ (Purification practices) that involve Yoga postures, breath and sound in order to clean the body, mind and spirit of deadly toxins.

Intentions for Week 6:

1.     Cleanse your internal and external space

2.    Adopt an Ayurvedic Diet for this week

3. Digital detox

WEEK 7: Santosha (Contentment): acceptance and appreciation of what is in the present moment. The more we learn to appreciate ad accept “what is”, the more contentment we will find within ourselves.

Intentions for Week 7:

1.     Shifting your focus from victimhood to conscious creator

2.    Practice radical acceptance

WEEK 8: Tapas (Self-Discipline): Tapas literally translates into “Heat”. This is anything that impacts us to change or cause refinement from within.

·       In Tapas we seek refinement by willingly going through the “fire” of uncomfortable moments either in life or on the Yoga mat.

·       The power of Tapas is used to cultivate more physical, spiritual and emotional strength plus endurance. This strength and endurance is what prepares us for our own spiritual enlightenment and awakening.

Intentions for Week 8:

1.     Cultivating the Fire of discipline within

2.    Changing the relationship you have to your challenges

3.    Cultivating a movement practice

WEEK 9: Svadhyaya (Self-Study): the pursuit of knowing ourselves. The study of what drives us and what shapes us. Self-study asks us to look at the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and realize that these stories create the reality we are living.

·       After we know ourselves more profoundly we are able to release any false or limiting beliefs that keep us from the truth of our higher and more Divine Self.

Intentions for Week 9:

1.     Going beyond the Ego

2.     Learning about ourselves through others

3.     Learning about the reality of who we truly are

WEEK 10: Ishvara Pranidhana (Surrender): life, the Universe, Source, God ultimately knows what's best for us. Through devotion, trust and surrender, we can receive each moment with a more open and accepting heart.

·       Rather than paddling upstream, surrender invites us to “go with the flow”, enjoy the ride and take in all of life's views.

Intentions for Week 10:

1.     Letting go of having to control everything

2.     Allowing more flow into your life

3.     Soul Tribe Graduation – Time to let go and celebrate the 10 weeks!
